Personality:
Ib is a normal nine year old. She is the only child of her moderately well-off family, but doesn't really fit the 'spoiled child' stereotype. She's not loud, rude, or demanding. In fact, she's rather quiet, nearly withdrawn upon a first glance. When she's out and about, she's usually with her parents, and as a result, does her best to behave. Her parents are usually quite busy, so the occasional family outing turns into something Ib tries to treasure. Her parents seem to understand that their daughter is a bit more mature and well-behaved than most children, as shown when they let her wander into the original gallery on her own. Granted, that didn't end well, but that's beside the point.

Her quietness is an integral part of who she is. She doesn't really speak on her own, and tends to only make a verbal reply when asked something directly. Most 'yes' and 'no' questions are answered with a nod or a shake of the head. Even her expressions tend to be lacking at some points. Her demeanor can easily be mistaken for a child who is unfeeling or cold, but the truth is, Ib just doesn't express her feelings very openly very often. She does smile and laugh, yes, but it's still quite muted compared to how another child would.

In spite of her quiet and calm outward nature, Ib has an inner strength and courage that her outer persona doesn't really show. When in the haunted gallery, she doesn't panic, nor cry. She takes an almost analytical mindset when it comes to the strangeness of the gallery she's trapped in, and tends to think things over rather than jump to the most obvious conclusion. When she meets Garry, she becomes determined to keep up and pull her own weight, not wanting him to feel he has to protect her all the time or hold him back. This is because despite her cool exterior, Ib has two things that her red rose also represents - love and passion. She truly cared for both Garry and Mary, thinking of them both as friends she wanted to protect and help save. She put her trust into them, and that same trust is what made her take Garry's hand and let him pull her in through the painting at the end, rather than go with her mother (said mother was merely an illusion of the haunted gallery, attempting to get her to stay).

Despite her intelligence and emotional strength, Ib is still a child; she's got a good amount of naivete, and some concepts are still unfamiliar to her. A good example of this is during one of the worse endings. Garry died (due to Mary ripping up his rose), but Ib didn't understand that, and thought he was merely asleep when she found his body. Through the game, she comes across words and phrases that don't make sense to her, and that is conveyed to the player through '????'. A few of the darker parts of the game, while scary in sheer atmosphere, have a mature or adult aspect that seems to escape Ib.

Abilities: Ib is very much normal, from head to toe. Her calm demeanor and ability to think clearly under pressure are her best assets. She is a quick learner, and will do whatever it takes to make sure she's not holding anyone back. She thinks of others more than herself; even if she's scared or sad, she will push those feelings aside and rise above them to help and protect those she cares for.

Sample Entry:

Will you take the rose?

Ib let her eyes fall onto the red petals and green stem of the rose, which rested in a simple white vase. There had been strangeness all around her, though what exactly was strange had momentarily escaped her. She knew it was unnatural, and that she was a wee bit frightened by the whole thing. Screaming and crying would do her no good, though; of that much she was certain. It was unsettling, being so suddenly alone, but even odder were the words.

If you lose this rose, you will ????

The last word was foreign to her; Ib didn't understand it. It was worrying, yes, but at the same time, her eyes kept getting drawn back to the rose. It was a deep color, and so pretty - like a cherry, or a candied apple. Something told her to take it, but what if it led her into trouble? She was in enough already... She reached out with a hand, only to stop about halfway to the rose. She felt like she was breathing harder, her heart pounding. She darted out her tongue to lick her lips, which felt suddenly, inexplicably dry.

It was just a flower, so why was she suddenly acting so odd? Was this what it meant to be... scared? Her hand finally moved again, curling lightly around the stem, only to tremble as it made contact. But then, a larger hand covered her own, a presence behind her that felt warm and comforting. A second hand moved in front of her eyes, holding a blue rose. And then a voice, familiar and quiet. "It's okay, Ib... I'm right here."

She couldn't hold back her smile, even if she wanted to. And the name that comes from her lips is the only thing that feels solid, feels true.

"Garry..."
